Chrome Zero-Day Under Active Attack — Patch Immediately

What Happened

Google shipped Chrome 152.0.7977.82/83 on September 4 to fix CVE-2026-85046, a type confusion bug in the V8 JavaScript and WebAssembly engine rated 8.8 on the CVSS scale. A compiler mismatch lets an array carrying packed elements receive the wrong internal map, turning the flaw into an arbitrary read-write primitive on the JavaScript heap and giving an attacker code execution inside Chrome’s sandbox once a victim opens a crafted web page reached through a phishing link, malicious ad, or compromised site. Researcher Salvatore Gulizia reported the bug on August 4 and earned a $1,000 bounty for the disclosure.
