Randy Marchany a cybersecurity expert with Virginia Tech feels this is another way to collect information. He says it’s specifically picking up on user habits and whereabouts.
He said if you’re concerned about this, opt out.
“The best advice is go in and turn it off. You can turn that feature off on all of your devices in your home network and basically take your home network off the grid,” he said.

If you want to opt out, here is how to do it:
- Open the Alexa app on your phone.
- Click the more button on the bottom right, then settings
- Under account settings select Amazon Sidewalk
- From there, you’ll want to hit the blue tab icon next to enabled and see it switch to the off position
